Rob Reiner and Wife Michele Singer Reiner Found Dead in Los Angeles Home; Son Arrested in Connection With Homicide

LOS ANGELES, CA  Legendary filmmaker, actor, and activist Rob Reiner, 78, and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, 68, were found dead Sunday afternoon in their Brentwood, Los Angeles home in what law enforcement officials are investigating as an apparent double homicide

Tragic Discovery

Shortly after 3:30 p.m. local time on December 14, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a medical-aid call at the Reiners’ residence in the upscale Brentwood neighborhood. Upon arrival, first responders found the couple deceased inside the home. 

According to official reports and jail records, both victims suffered fatal wounds consistent with a knife attack, though the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet publicly released final autopsy results.

The couple’s bodies were reportedly discovered by their daughter, Romy Reiner, who was not injured in the incident.

Son Arrested and Held on Bail

In the days following the discovery, 32-year-old Nick Reiner, the son of Rob and Michele, was arrested and booked into custody by Los Angeles law enforcement. Records from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department show he was booked on a **felony charge and is currently being held on $4 million bail

Authorities have not publicly confirmed the specific charges or released further details of the investigation, and official statements regarding the cause of death and formal charges are pending. 

Law Enforcement Response

The Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division is leading the investigation, and detectives continue to process the scene and interview witnesses and family members. Officials have described the case as complex and emphasized that it remains under active investigation.

Rob Reiner was a towering figure in American entertainment with a career spanning six decades. He first gained national fame as Michael “Meathead” Stivic on All in the Family before becoming an acclaimed director. Reiner and Singer Reiner married in 1989 and had three children together. Rob Reiner also adopted his first wife Penny Marshall’s daughter, actress Tracy Reiner
