MOJAVE, CA — Saturday, February 7, the Veterans Building in Mojave, California, came alive with the sound of horns, sirens, and laughter as Rigs 4 Kidz rolled into town. Kids of all ages excitedly climbed in and out of vehicles of every size, getting an up-close look at the machines they usually only see driving by.

From Waste Management trucks and DWP vehicles to Caltrans equipment, UPS rigs, CHP units, Kern County Sheriff patrol cars, and Kern County Fire engines, the event showcased an impressive lineup of vehicles and the people who operate them. Each rig sparked curiosity, questions, and plenty of smiles as kids explored, honked horns, and imagined themselves behind the wheel.

The fun didn’t stop there. Tables hosted by the local Elks Lodge, the library, and other community organizations lined the area, handing out books, posters, stickers, mini construction hats, and activity books—making sure everyone went home with something special.

As the event began to wrap up, real life briefly took center stage when Kern County Fire Station 14’s engine and the Hall Ambulance were called out to respond to a vehicle in a ditch. Even then, the moment served as a powerful reminder of why events like this matter—connecting kids and families to the first responders and service workers who protect and support the community every day.

The reception to the event was overwhelmingly positive. Smiles were everywhere, excitement filled the air, and the sense of community was undeniable. If this event was any indication, Rigs 4 Kidz has the potential to become a beloved tradition—and hopefully, this was just the first of many to come.
