Antelope Valley College extends an invitation to faculty, staff, students, and the broader Antelope Valley community to attend Frills & Fringes, an exhibition displaying the artwork of Leigh Salgado, on view through March 5, 2026. The show is truly a representation of superb artistry in a medium that is quite unique—utilizing hand-cut and layered paper!

Hosted at the Rich Sim Gallery in Cedar Hall, this exhibition features Salgado’s meticulously crafted, hand-cut, and painted paper artworks. Her pieces delve into themes of desire and resilience, drawing inspiration from feminine attire, ornamental patterns, and formative personal experiences from girlhood and womanhood.

Frills & Fringes presents works created over a ten-year period, reflecting Salgado’s sustained interest in memory, identity, and the influential women who have shaped her perspective. While her distinctive hand-cut paper technique evolved through extensive experimentation, Salgado also references historical and cultural practices such as Mexican papel picado, Chinese jianzhi, and Japanese kirigami.

Salgado’s body of work showcases determination, mastery of technique, and a profound appreciation for the effort behind artistic production, producing intricate pieces that balance delicacy with resilience.
