ANTELOPE VALLEY, CA — Drivers across Lancaster and Palmdale are feeling the familiar pinch at the pump this week as fuel prices continue their slow climb into spring. While California remains the most expensive state for gasoline, the Antelope Valley is currently faring slightly better than the statewide average, offering some of the more affordable prices in Southern California.

According to AAA’s statewide fuel index, California’s average price for regular unleaded has climbed to $5.657.

Current Local Prices

Recent data from regional fuel trackers show the following averages and station‑level prices:

  • Regular: $4.39–$4.87

  • Mid‑Grade: ~$4.79

  • Premium: ~$5.00

  • Diesel: ~$5.25 1

These prices reflect a modest increase compared to last week, mirroring the statewide trend of rising fuel costs as refineries shift to summer blends and demand begins to tick upward.

Notable Stations in Lancaster & Palmdale

Here are several well‑trafficked stations in the AV and their current operating status:

While Costco in Lancaster typically offers some of the lowest prices in the region, ARCO locations in both Lancaster and Palmdale continue to post competitive rates, often undercutting major brands like Chevron and Mobil. 3 4 5 6

How the AV Compares to the Rest of California

According to AAA’s statewide fuel index, California’s average price for regular unleaded has climbed to $5.657, up significantly from last month’s average of $4.599.2 By comparison, the Antelope Valley’s mid‑$4 range offers a relative break for local commuters—especially those traveling long distances along the 14 Freeway.

What’s Driving the Increase?

Several factors are contributing to the current price bump:

  • Seasonal refinery maintenance reducing supply

  • Transition to summer gasoline blends, which are more expensive to produce

  • Higher statewide taxes and environmental fees

  • Rising crude oil prices tied to global market fluctuations, including the ongoing war in Iran which has disrupted oil supply routes and driven prices higher globally

Impact on Local Commuters

With many Antelope Valley residents commuting to Los Angeles, Santa Clarita, or Edwards AFB, even small increases can add up quickly. A typical AV commuter driving 60–80 miles per day may see weekly fuel costs rise by $8–$15 compared to February.

Local delivery drivers, rideshare operators, and small businesses that rely on transportation are also bracing for higher operating expenses as the spring season progresses.

Looking Ahead

Analysts expect prices to continue rising through April before stabilizing in early summer—though much depends on refinery output and global oil markets, and especially the ongoing war in Iran. For now, AV drivers can still find relatively competitive prices by sticking to ARCO, Costco, and select independent stations east of Sierra Highway.
