Lancaster, CA — On August 7, 2025, Matt Evans filed a landmark lawsuit against AV Scanner News, a social media digital news service. Evans alleges that AV Scanner News acted with malice and reckless disregard for the truth, knowingly publishing false information, and that the the action seeks to hold the outlet accountable while sending a clear message against irresponsible journalism.

Since the filing, multiple attempts were made to serve the administrators of the AV Scanner News social media page with legal documents pertaining to the case. According to witnesses and video taken at the scene, the administrators repeatedly ran and hid to avoid being served. Subsequently, one of the administrators even took to social media during the process, taunting those attempting service (post image included below). In the post, the administrator tagged ICE and included remarks that appeared to target the server’s Hispanic ethnicity—seemingly challenging them to come to the ICE facility to serve them there.

Despite these efforts to evade service, one of the three administrators sited in the case was eventually served. Video taken of the service appears to show that the man laughed upon receiving the documents, stating, “That’s fine, I’ve been waiting for it.”

Investigation relating to the practices of AV Scanner News will be ongoing.
